- You are told that a neighbor's young boy has bone cancer. Explain to the parents why the cancer must be treated with chemicals that spread throughout the body rather that with surgical removal of the tumor.
- You are advising a 12-year-old boy who wants to start lifting heavy weights to bulk up for junior high school football. What advise would you give him related to the benefits and problems of weightlifting at his age?
- A young woman read about a dietary supplement that reduces osteoporosis. How would you determine the effectiveness and safety of this supplement?
- You were asked to help a woman plan an exercise routine after recovering from a prolonged illness. Her physician said she should avoid anything that can cause stress fractures. What activities should she avoid?
- A friend was told to keep his food intake slightly higher and to take in more proteins after breaking a leg. Why did the doctor give this advise?

1- The bone cancer must be killed with chemicals, because it is dangerous to remove anything from the bone. It could compromise the structure of the bone.
ReplyDelete4- she should avoid high amounts of any excersise, including prolonged running.
3- you should check how much calcium the supplement has.

You would have to remove a whole chunk of bone. Your ostioblasts wouldn’t be able to rebuild that much of new bone.

Heavy weight lifting at a young age can impact the growth of the bones. Moderate light weight for an early age is good but not necessary but the benefits include better muscular strength and flexibility to better prepare for junior high school football.
#3 The increase in protein would help to build more muscle in that area along with everything else but the increase in muscle leads to helping the bone to stay in alignment in order to repair itself fully.
2. Some benefits are that he could be a lot stronger and physically fit than the other boys that would be playing football as well. The problems that can occur is that the boy might add stress in his life, because it would become a daily part of his life that he is not used to yet. Another problem is that in a 12 year old boy's body is that a body like his is not 100% capable from having muscle based on heavy weight workouts.
ReplyDelete4. The exercises that this particular woman should be avoiding is running, and workouts on a particular body region that is in constant use.
5. The doctor told him that, because with more protein intake, the area that needs to recover will be able to receive a good amount of that protein that is taken in, and help balance that person’s body with the content of protein.
2. His body hasn’t fully developed yet so he might have problems with his joints or back when he gets older from lifting the heavy weights at a young age, also if he starts lifting heavy he’s going to want to start taking supplements to get bigger faster so those will also mess with his liver and everything.
ReplyDelete3. You would have to look it up on the internet on a trusted website or you would have to talk to your doctor about what it contains and he would tell you if it’s good for you or not.
4. Running most definitely but other than that anything hard on your feet. You have to start off slow with anything you do.
1. The reason why you need to remove the cancer with chemicals instead of surgery is because the bone would be considered as broken and it wouldnt be able to heal properly.
ReplyDelete2. Weight lifting at a young age isnt bad for you. But if you train with heavier weight can stun your growth. At a young age you should start light.
5. Protein can help repair the muscle tissue around the broken are of the leg. The increase intake of food can also cause your to speed up the process of healing because of the vitamin intake increase.
2. The 12 year old boy should work out, but only to an extent. Workouts like push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups should be done to keep kids fit. When it comes to weight lifting it’s much different. Some doctors say that it’s best not to work out with “heavy” weights until you reach the age of at least 18, because your body is still developing. So for a 12 year old, its much worse and the consequences may result much worse. Reported weight lifting injuries in children range in fractures, spondylolysis, meniscal tears, and herniated discs to dislocations and cardiac ruptures. Many of these injuries occur without the supervision of an adult or trained professional. So if the 12 year old wants to work out, he should, but with an adult that knows what to do and only to an extent- no heavy weight training.
ReplyDelete4. There are many different workouts that can cause stress for the woman, but the one that’s she shouldn’t do for sure is running. First start out with walking and other exercises and slowly progress to something harder.
5. Healing of bone requires more nutrients that the body needs to simply maintain bone health. “Patients with injuries should eat a balanced diet, and ensure adequate nutritional intake of all food groups.” Says one Doctor. So by slightly rising your diet with food can help a lot. Obviously you have to eat healthy foods like vegetables- green preferable- with steak, beef, or chicken to get in the best vitamins, minerals, and protein. With those foods your bones get more of the nutrients they need for a better healing process and it becomes much faster.
1) You have to use chemicals, because you can’t just remove parts of the bone.
ReplyDeleteThe bones are the structure of the body, they keep your body together. The bones also protect many organs. And if you were to go remove them you’d be leaving many bones exposed. The chemicals can go into the body, without having to remove any parts of the skeleton.
2) Before you start strength training, you should be checked out by your doctor to make sure it's safe for you to lift weights. I don’t think the boy has started puberty yet, so lifting weights won’t give him the results he wants. He will get stronger, but the you wont see the results on the muscles as much. Don’t over excersize, it is possible. Yo can pull muscles, you can get concussions, and also you can break bones. Start out with small distances for aerobic workouts, very light lifting. You don’t need to lift 100 something lbs. just lift like 10-30 don’t push. Don’t try to make yourself look cool.
3) You would go online research, you would look for forums where people who have taken the dietary supplement discuss if it was helpful to them, but before you go and take supplements, get the ok from your doctor. He is the person who would know if it would help you or not. And after the doctor go to your pharmacist as well. Ask him any further questions, and if he’d recommend it for you.
2. I would tell the young kid how too properly lift weights, a lot of people believe that lifting weights for young kids is bad. Its only bad if they don’t know what they’re doing and doing too much weight. I would focus mostly on main muscle groups like chest, back, legs and core. Most exercises include secondary muscles, like arms help with chest. At a young age I would suggest to work your body weight resistance, doing pushups, pull ups, jump/prisoner squats.
ReplyDelete3. To find out the effectiveness and safety of the supplement I would do a lot of research, and talk to a doctor about it. I would also see what kind of side effects the product has to make sure it was okay.
5. When breaking a bone, your body starts repairing the bone right away which takes energy which is why you need to take in more food. Protein increases skeletal integrity, muscle strength, immune response. Protein also provides your body with amino acids. Amino acids are necessary for calcium absorption and tissue regeneration.
1. You must use chemicals to destroy the cancer because when you remove the tumor it would be to large of a chunk of bone to rebuild. The osteoblasts could not repair the big amount of bone missing that the child had removed.
ReplyDelete4. The woman should stay away from running, heavy lifting, and any other physical activities that put stress towards her bones. She could however swim, bike, do yoga and other activities that do not strain her bones.
5. The amount of food would help speed up his metabolism and help to repair the bone. The protein from the meat that he would eat would help him by speeding up the molecules that restore the bone back to its original state.
2. Strength training can have many benefits like increased endurance and strength, and regular exercise can improve concentration, which will result in better grades. There are also risks to weight lifting at a young age. Since your body is still growing, it’s easy to strain or permanently damage your bones, tendons or ligaments.
ReplyDelete1. The cancer needs to be treated with chemicals rather than just removing the tumor, because the osteoclasts are responsible for breaking down bone and cartilage, and then releasing the calcium back into the bloods, for the osteoblasts to pick up, and help build new bone. So the cancer has the potential to spread throughout the whole body.
4. She should avoid any high intensity exercise, or activity, such as running, kickboxing, or anything that requires bearing a lot of weight.

You would have to remove a whole piece of bone. Your body wouldn't be able to repair that much of bone.

#1 Yes because since the article said that docs are falsely diagnosing patience with NICO they are just wanting to make more income of money.
1.You are told that a neighbor's young boy has bone cancer. Explain to the parents why the cancer must be treated with chemicals that spread throughout the body rather that with surgical removal of the tumor.
ReplyDeleteBecause the cancer can grow back and it spreads. The bone is actually a reason why our body has blood running through us. The bones marrow produces blood to our bodies. The yellow marrow produces the blood that is need for our bodies to continue as normal. If the bone has any cancerous material, it can spread because of the bone producing blood. So instead of removing the cancer that is on the bone, it should be treated through chemicals. Then the cancer that is spreading will stop spreading to other bones throughout the body and there is a lesser chance of the cancer coming back then just removing. Know you just reduced the chances of the cancer coming back
2.You are advising a 12-year-old boy who wants to start lifting heavy weights to bulk up for junior high school football. What advice would you give him related to the benefits and problems of weightlifting at his age?
The 12 year old should be aware that there is a possibility that he could stunt his growth because he is not totally developed in his bones. If he lifts with bad form he can stunt the growth. As long as he supervised and lifts properly he can work out and bulk up little bit.
5.A friend was told to keep his food intake slightly higher and to take in more proteins after breaking a leg. Why did the doctor give this advice?
The doctor’s reason for saying this is because the protein will help rebuild the broken bones. The amino acids would help the bone repair its self along with the muscle around it. The more food you eat the more fats, protein, and calcium you get in your body and that helps the bone heal faster.
2. I would tell the kid that the cons of early weight lifting are that he will most likely stunt his growth. His bones aren't fully developed yet and still need to grow but the pressure on his joints and muscles might hinder the growth of them at the same time as his strength may be getting better.
ReplyDelete5. Protein plays a role like vitamin D and calcium where they help the osteoblasts rebuild the bone after a break. Your body needs to be healthy in order to be able to form the break back together, and more protein will keep him healthy and able to do that.
4. She won't be able to run, or any heavy physical endurance workouts that could put too much pressure on the healed stress fracture because it will most likely lead to it being re-fractured or even worse. Lighter activites like walking and swimming would be better to start off with, to build up the strength of her bones again.
1. I would tell them that when a bone has cancer it has to be treated with chemicals because one of the major concerns about bone cancer is the density and lost of bone. The chemicals used have been found to increase the strength in the bone, which is good because then it won’t be just preventing it to affect the other bones but it will be giving it strength.
ReplyDelete4. I would tell her that she has to start slow with any type of exercise that she would be doing. I would recommend to go to a gym and get an instructor because It’s better to have someone that knows more about exercises, also to be patient and not try to do exed herself because then she will get an stress fracture and that will be worst.
5. the doctor recommends this because then the healing would be faster . It would help not just the bone that has been broken but also the rest, so it would be less likely to break.
2. Strength training should be recommended. Lifting heavy weights and bulking up is not good for children. IT risks growing bones, muscles and joints.
ReplyDelete4.Eating foods with calcium and vitamin D.Start exercising slowly and gradually as long as they don't cause pain.Build up to levels of exercise.Muscle strength training is recommended.
5. You need adequate protein for muscle repair.Absorbing calcium from foods helps bone growth.
5) people need adequate protein to repair muscles .calcium from foods helps bone growth.
ReplyDelete4. There are a ton of workouts that cause stress in woman but the one the women shouldnt do would be running. She should walk and other exercises .
2)Some advice for the 12 year old boy would be to wait a few years to start lifting weights. Lifting weights now can maybe damage his growth plates if he was trying to body build. But lifting just a little won’t do any harm, so it would be okay
2)A 12 year olds body still isn’t fully developed yet. So if the kid starts to weight train, he wont exactly build much muscle. He will stay in shape though. I would tell him that if he wants to weight train that he should have someone supervising him at all times. He should also use lighter weights, and let his body rest. Some problems he can run into, is that he can push himself overboard, and make himself very sore.
ReplyDelete4. I would tell the woman that she should excercise, but start off slowly with any type of excercise. She should have a personal trainer or something like that so they can keep an eye on her, and she wont over due a workout and cause the stress fracture again.
5. The doctor said for him to take more protein because healing of bones requires more nutrients that the body needs for the bone.
2) I would tell the 12 year old boy that wieghtlifting at such a young age will stunt his growth. Even though it will make him a little more muscular it will make his stop growing since he is not fully developed. It puts to much pressure on his muscles and joints. Also if he does start weightlifting, start off with small weights and slowly increase.
ReplyDelete4) I would say running is for now out of the question. We will start off walking and then slowly increase into a more active exercise. We will avoid doing anything with much weight.
5) Protein is very important after you have broken a bone. Protein and calcium are nutrients that your bones need to stay strong and healthy.
